Dance your troubles away. A workshop given by Joshua Halpern at The Esalen Institute, Oct 2013
Where do we locate love across vast scales of time and place? Poetry, contemplation of the changing landscape outside, honey sampling, a comet+sun rendezvous, and replenishing our reassurance supply are all part of this participatory workshop, given as part of the 2013 Cosmology of Love Conference at CIIS.
Giving breath to lost locations, hearing hello's across species, and naming our galactic neighbors, are just some of the co-creative explorations of this workshop for the 2013 Grounding Terrestrial Wisdom Culture event.

Joshua Halpern discusses climate migrants through an integral ecology lens, at the Grounding Terrestrial Wisdom Culture Event at CIIS, May 4th 2012
In this 2 hour presentation/workshop, Joshua Halpern explores the FIGHT to save the planet. At several points the whole room gets out of their chairs and acts out ecological cataclysms.
Joshua Halpern explores how through the stories we carry, the futures we co-create, and the presence of each moment, we learn to nurture growth and transformation above all through our loving relationships.
Where your water comes from.
How the landscape around you continues to change over eons.
Who lived where you live before you.
How to be in cahoots with your internal flora, your trillion-strong gut microbiome.
How to be in cahoots with your external organs, your rainforest lungs and river veins.
Where we float ~ nestled inside our Milky Way Galaxy, our Laniakea Galactic Supercluster, our Universe, our Pluriverses.
A cataclysm - acting out the protoplanet Theia colliding with primordial Earth to create the moon.
A cosmic symphony - the songs of Earth and her sibling planets' electromagnetic signatures.
An ecological phenomenon - The moment sea and sky combine to form a hurricane.
A zoomed-in scale - the different love dances between polinators and flowers.
A lost landscape - the sounds of villages that stood for 1000s of years and disappeared in one generation.
A speculaspecies - a future animal inhabiting its future niche

Our bodies (our homes) are made up of (and nested within) other bodies. We include tiny teeming epigenetic and microbiotic tummy mates, rely on our nearby neighbors to transform human-scale homescapes together, and map the ongoing long seasons of our star shed's Laniakean kinships. Our allies are abundant. IMAGE CREDITS BELOW
Offered two days after the 2020 US elections, Joshua Halpern's forum considers the following questions:
-Who wants to start a war?
-When does ruin renew?
-Can we compost cruelty?
-How much must change?
-Who brought what?
Joshua Halpern, a Bay Area based Metamorphosis Ecologist, is unclear how to de-escalate state-supported sadists, but still wants to learn strategies to fight the theft of all we love. In this accelerating dance with disasters and dread, hastened dehumanization avalanching towards Gaiacide, Josh attempts surrender across scales of safety, and hopes peacemaking presence with what's precious can help ease expectations of continuity. Mostly Josh wants to hear how you're handling this shit and will try to build soil for growing foods that might unfuck the future.
